It presents a scholarly exposition of English-language psychoanalytic terms and concepts, including those from all contemporary schools of theory and practice. Each entry starts with a brief definition that is followed by an explanation of the significance of the term/concept for psychoanalysis, its historical development, and the present day controversies about best usage.

About the Author

Elizabeth L. Auchincloss, M. D. , is senior associate director and training and supervising psychoanalyst at the Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research.

Eslee Samberg, M. D. , is supervising analyst at The New York Psychoanalytic Institute. Both teach at Weill Cornell Medical College.
