Founded in 1891, the University of Chicago Press is the largest university press in the United States. It publishes a wide variety of books and – currently – around 50 academic journals. The Press takes pride in having among its authors 20 Nobel Prize winners. Some of those names would be Milton Friedman – world-famous economist and statistician, Willard Frank Libby – an American physical chemist who developed the method of radiocarbon dating, J. M. Coetzee – the author of Disgrace and Waiting for the Barbarians and Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio – a French writer praised for works of „poetic adventure and sensual ecstasy”.

Since its founding in 1891 as one of the three original divisions of the University of Chicago, the Press has embraced as its mission the obligation to disseminate scholarship of the highest standard and to publish serious works that promote education, foster public understanding, and enrich cultural life.
